MacKillop College, Port Macquarie, Year 11 and 12 Legal Studies students raised $4000 to help support local domestic violence services.

MacKillop College, Port Macquarie, held its annual Stand Up Speak Out event, a fundraiser for the MacKillop Legal Justice Fund. Since its inception in 2016, the fund has raised over $40,000 for victims of domestic violence in the Port Macquarie area. The Year 11 and Year 12 Legal Studies students joined forces to raise funds and awareness of domestic violence.

The student-led committee was successful in promoting a day that focused on raising awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence, particularly within the local Port Macquarie community and emphasised the importance of kindness in all situations. The student body was greeted with ‘welcome’ lollipops and enthusiastically supported the request to wear ‘white’ on the day.

All students were asked to dress in white on the day and provide a gold coin donation. Further funds were raised through a cake stall. BlueFit generously donated soft drinks to sell. The committee ran a bake sale, fuelled by student donations, amassing overwhelming support for the home-baked goods across the school’s junior and senior campuses; its sold-out shop front raised a significant amount of money.

'Overall, the fundraising day went extremely well. I was really impressed with the amount of donations we received for the bake sale, and was overwhelmed with the amount of school engagement and unity for such a great cause,' said student Madison McKee.

This year's cohort has raised over $4,000 to donate to local charities to support those impacted by domestic violence in the local community.
