Congratulations to St Mary’s Catholic College, Casino, Year 12 student Sophie-Rose Hastie for winning the School-Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year at the North Coast and Mid-North Coast 2022 NSW Training Awards. Sophie-Rose was presented with a framed certificate and trophy at the Coffs Harbour regional ceremony.
The NSW Training Awards are held annually to recognise outstanding vocational education and training achievements.
This committed and optimistic student began her traineeship journey at the end of 2020 by starting a Certificate II in Business through NSW TAFE. She gained valuable work skills and experience at Richmond Valley Council’s Casino Library.
Sophie-Rose was commended for her positive attitude and outstanding delivery of the Tech Savy program for the local Casino community. Sophie-Rose recognised the support of the Council and Library staff.
‘Since I started my school-based trainee journey, I have been surrounded by such a supportive team of people at the Richmond Valley Council and more specifically at the Richmond-Upper Clarence Regional Libraries,’ Sophie said.
This worthwhile school-based experience has guided Sophie in her possible career pathway as a librarian or a teacher.
‘Sophie is a dedicated student who has worked consistently well in both her traineeship and her academic studies - balancing work, VET competencies and an ATAR study load,’ said Assistant Principal - Learning & Teaching, Nadine Connolly.
Leader of Learning, VET David Lynch, stated that the St Mary’s College community are proud of Sophie’s achievements and would like to thank the Richmond Valley Council for their continued support in the community in allowing students to complete School Based Traineeships.
We wish Sophie-Rose all the best as she moves into the next round of the competition, the NSW state final.
