St Joseph’s Primary School, Coraki, has won the Roger O'Sullivan Memorial Award for Family, School and Community Partnerships for learning, which includes a grant of $4000. (25 August 2022)

Congratulations to St Joseph's Primary School, Coraki, for receiving a prestigious award from the NSW/ACT Council of Catholic Parents. The Roger O'Sullivan Memorial Award is an exciting opportunity for a school community to undertake a project to strengthen partnerships between home and school.

The award has seen the St Joseph’s school being recognised for their vision to enhance the aesthetics of the school environment in an exciting collaboration between the school, family and wider community.

The prize money of $4,000 will allow the school community to continue with their project to update their garden rainforest area to include a garden path with pavers engraved with the names of families both past and present.

‘It is a  fantastic achievement for our school and the community,’ said teacher assistant Dom Howard.

The funds will allow the school to complete their Yarning Circle to provide the students, staff and families with a special place to increase belonging and connection through listening and storytelling.

The rich history and culture of the school community will be represented in artwork created by local indigenous artists in partnership with students and families.

‘The grant will help bring the community together to celebrate our rich culture and history,’ said Indigenous Education Worker Len Moran.

The importance of partnerships in the Diocese of Lismore has been demonstrated by our schools being recognised in both first and second place. St Mary’s Primary School, Grafton, is to be congratulated for taking second place. They were acknowledged for their submission about their Family, Faith and Fun night.

‘It is wonderful to be acknowledged for the interaction and engagement we have with our parent Community,’ said Principal of St Mary’s Jacki Moore.

These are two outstanding examples of how Community Matters in the Diocese of Lismore.
