Role of the RTC

Through the RiTE Initiative, each school will welcome a Resident Teaching Consultant (RTC) – a skilled educator dedicated to mentoring and guiding student teachers as they develop their classroom skills.

Acting as the formal link between Southern Cross University and the school, RTCs are focused on enhancing teaching quality and supporting professional growth. With a commitment to innovation and instructional excellence, they’ll work closely with student teachers, fostering their development and embedding best practices to enrich learning across each school community.

Introducing the RTC

The Resident Teaching Consultant (RTC) is an accomplished educator assigned a temporary leadership role within a school dedicated to elevating teaching quality and fostering professional development. Acting as a bridge between academic theory and classroom practice, RTCs mentor Associate Teachers, facilitate training, implement innovative teaching methods, and refine instructional strategies. They collaborate closely with university staff to provide real-time, context-specific learning experiences, including on-site tutorials and ‘just-in-time’ sessions that reinforce the alignment between theory and practice. RTCs work on targeted, time-bound initiatives aimed at improving teaching standards and student outcomes, integrating seamlessly into the school’s strategic goals with the support of school leadership.
